Travel insurance "should be compulsory"

An insurer has stated that UK holidaymakers should not be allowed to leave the country without a travel
insurance policy.
Perry Wilson, spokesperson for travel
insurance specialist InsureandGo, said that many British people are still failing to take the importance of arranging cover for their holiday seriously.
With the ski season in full swing, the firm is urging people to insure themselves before taking to the slopes.
Explaining the importance of travel
insurance, Mr Wilson said: "The biggest part of it is medical: accidental damage to yourself and also personal liability if you cause damage to somebody else."
"I think travel
insurance should be compulsory when you leave the UK," he added.
Advising people to "think before you ski", Mr Wilson also warned of the dangers of combining winter sports with alcohol consumption.
InsureandGo conducted a survey last year which discovered that 11 per cent of people who have skied or snowboarded have done so while intoxicated.
