Winter drivers 'must take precautions'

An
insurance organisation has urged motorists to drive sensibly and be aware of the hazardous conditions on the UK's roads this winter.
The British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) said that a combination of darker road conditions, wet surfaces and frosted vehicles can make driving during the winter months dangerous, particularly for inexperienced motorists.
Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at BIBA, advised car owners to prepare thoroughly before taking journeys in cold weather. He recommended that motorists check their tyre pressure, make sure their vehicle is fully de-iced and take a "survival kit" in case of a breakdown, which could include a mobile phone and
insurance details.
He said: "Certainly it's a little tougher out there in these sorts of weather conditions.
"It's the sensible precautions at this time of year - make sure you're ready, make sure your car's ready so if something does happen then you'll be prepared."
According to the AA, Thursday 27th December and Wednesday 2nd January will be the busiest days for breakdowns on Britain's roadways over the Christmas period.
