The nation's homeowners have been urged not to make things easy for burglars when they go away for the Christmas holidays.
Although a survey by Halifax Home Insurance found that 34 per cent of people worry about their property being broken into over the festive period, 20 per cent have made no plans to improve their domestic security.
The insurer's research discovered that 19 per cent of British people plan to travel away from their homes at some point over Christmas.
"At Christmas it's easy to get caught up in the excitement of the season and forget about home security," said Marty Foulds, senior
claims manager at Halifax Home Insurance.
"We are urging householders, especially those who plan to go away on holiday, to take measures to safeguard their home," he added.
Ten per cent of British households currently have no contents
insurance, according to a recent survey by Sainsbury's Finance, as consumers try to save money by avoiding the purchase of
insurance products.
