December set to be 'peak month for cash withdrawals'

This month is set to break records for the amount of money withdrawn from UK cash machines, a new report suggests.
According to Sainsbury's Bank, a total of £10.79 billion will be taken out of the nation's ATMs during December, with 7.59 million cash machine transactions occurring each day of the Christmas month.
Breaking the £10 billion barrier for the first time ever, this month's withdrawals will see £348.06 million accessed by ATM users on a daily basis, the bank estimates.
Head of ATMs at Sainsbury's Bank Alex Blake commented: "People are more reliant on ATMs than ever before and the peak time for cash withdrawals is December.
"This helps explain why there has been a 29 per cent increase in the number of ATMs between December 2003 and June 2007."
A separate study by Sainsbury's Bank recently stated that UK shoppers will spend a total of £11.85 billion in the last week before Christmas.
