A growing number of British people living aboard are taking advantage of online services to look after their finances, a new survey has revealed.
Research from Alliance & Leicester International (ALIL) shows that 47 per cent of UK expats check their bank balance using the internet on a weekly basis, while 83 per cent say that they shop online regularly.
Managing director of ALIL Simon Hull said that the findings demonstrate how the internet has "revolutionised" the lives of expat communities around the world, also allowing them to stay in touch with loved ones and keep abreast of important events in their native country.
"Whether it's making purchases or transferring money from accounts, it's even more important that expats take the same precautions with their safety online as they do offline," Mr Hull advised.
According to a recent report from Apacs, British consumers will spend over £5 billion in online stores this Christmas.
