"Get smart" with money, says Channel 4 presenter

Wed 23 Jan 2008 2pm

British people need to make more of an effort to improve their money situation, Cesarina Holm-Kander has said.

The presenter of Channel 4 programme Your Money or Your Wife said that the average UK family is wasting about £5,000 each year due to a "complacent" attitude to personal finance.

Promoting the Your Money Matters exhibition taking place in London next month, the financial expert advised consumers to be "proactive" and take their money matters into their own hands, instead of waiting for interest rates to go down.

"A lot of people are scared about personal finance and there's absolutely no reason to be," Ms Holm-Kander said.

"Get smart, get savvy [and] get informed," she urged.

Your Money or Your Wife examines how debt problems can cause serious problems in relationships, particularly when people hide their spending habits from their partner.

Ms Holm-Kander began her career as a financial analyst in the City of London and has also worked as a retail consultant and corporate analyst at Superdrug.
