A Norfolk soldier paralysed in a road accident while on duty has won £4 million in damages.
Alan Ashton, 34, from Kings Lynn was travelling in a Land Rover when the vehicle was involved in an accident after trying to overtake another car on the A12 in Essex in August 2001.
The incident left him paralysed from the waist down.
Mr Ashton also suffered severe brain injury as a result of the crash and now needs continuous care.
Total damages had previously been assessed at £5.2 million, but as Mr Ashton was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash a high court judge ruled 80 per cent of the claim should be given.
The Ministry of Defence admitted liability for the case and agreed the six-figure pay out sum.
