A council worker has been awarded £12,000 in compensation after injuring his spine while at work.
Craig Lewis, 41, was left with severe back pain after the back rest of a chair he was sitting on at work collapsed.
The incident which happened in 2004 left the Lewisham Council employee, who lives in Bromley, in constant pain and dependent on medication.
The father-of-four, who has been premises officer at the council for 20 years, said the injuries he sustained made lifting his son who suffers from cerebral palsy unbearable.
Speaking to the Bromley Times, Vicky Easton regional head of local government at Unison, the body that helped Mr Lewis gain legal aid, said she was pleased with the outcome of the case.
She added: "The compensation is therefore wholly justified."
Meanwhile a spokesman for Lewisham Council told the newspaper: "The council handles all
claims of this nature in accordance with personal injury protocols and damages are assessed based on independent medical evidence."
