Consumers urged to seek advice over insurance

People should always ask a professional for advice before committing to an
insurance policy, according to a member of the British Insurance Brokers' Association.
Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the organisation, said that consumers should seek professional help in order to secure the policy most suited to their needs, particularly when arranging
life insurance and critical illness cover.
Mr Trudgill also warned that the most competitive price is not always the best indicator of a good policy and said that brokers can help customers to understand what information to include on their
insurance forms.
He advised: "Don't just go and surf the internet and buy the cheapest thing you can find.
"Speak to an
insurance broker who can give you the right advice on the right policy for you. They will make you aware of how you have to disclose things, like pre-existing medical conditions."
Nick Kirwan of the Association of British Insurers recently said that the UK is "hugely underinsured" for
life cover.
