The pride of the Spanish Butchers and Bankers.

Trumpo has just spent the last few days on a fact finding mission on the Costa Del Sol.

And in turn, making a small contribution to the Spanish economy.

Whilst touring the coast, it became more obvious than on previous visits that a very different pride and attitude is currently being adopted in beautiful EspaƱa than here in the UK, and just as importantly, the Spanish people and businesse’s loyalty and pride are displayed in bright lights at every turn.

Whilst here in the UK we have evolved into a fantastic multi-cultural society, we do seem to have lost a litttle bit of pride in our very own Britishness along the way. Everywhere I turned, whether it be the Banco or the Supermercado, the shop windows all seemed to have a larger than life show of support and pride for their national sporting heroes, something sadly lacking here in the UK.

One of the interesting examples, and this has led me to write this blog, was Banco Santander’s substantial life size marketing in their shiny windows of Spanish Grand Prix driver Fernando Alonso, and of equal size and prominence fellow Spanish test driver Pedro De La Rosa. Sadly nowhere to be seen was Banco Santander’s British and worldwide sporting hero Lewis Hamilton.

This show of support highlighted the Spanish Banks desire to suppport their own 100%, even if one of their local heroes may play a lesser role on the world stage. The display shows that the Bank are equally proud as punch of all their homegrown Spanish drivers and give them equal prominence and support, irrelevant of their current successes.

This approach is extremely interesting, Banco Santander are one of the leading banks in the world and they choose to display their local heroes as the iconic roll models.

When was the last time you walked into a Bank in the UK and felt a pang of pride for a British hero?

Let’s all support our British sports men and women whenever possible, we’ve not got that many!
