Sale and Rent Back or Stand and Deliver?
What can only be described as daylight robbery, and certainly the opposite of Robin Hood, these sale and rent back firms have been taking from the poor and giving to the rich. It’s absolutely scandalous that the most vulnerable of society have been given the opportunity to surrender their largest asset, namely their home, without fully understanding the consequences, and thinking that they can rent the property for the rest of their life after selling their house at a discount to these suspect firms. The government have an obligation to regulate these activities immediately to prevent any further casualties.
In a shocking move Shelter, yes Shelter, in partnership with the Citizens Advice Bureau, who are no doubt having to urgently re-house victims and families when the rent back side of the deal fails to deliver as expected, have called upon the government to act .
Surely the government can’t bury their head in the sand with this one, even Peggy Mitchell from East Enders is about to loose the Old Vic. It’s a sad state of affairs when a call to action for our government is a soap opera, Trevor McDonald or Watchdog. Lets hope they are watching in the house of commons.
