Arthur

I think your comments are bob on - less red tape, less self interest, and a clear line of responsibility.

Maybe the current bunch of so called "public representatives" like their little cushy numbers a little too much to ruffle any productive feathers...

Your cynical Trumpo.

But no one seems to consider less government as a solution to our problems.
All the economic, health, education and crime mess is due to government intervention of one sort or another.
Governnment should be much smaller and reduce as much legislation as possible year after year and a commitment to no new laws. It should ensure good proceedures are in place to let proffesionals do their job and independance from governnment would be the watchword.

The number of MPs should be reduced down to the number counties in England - representing each county, as a start to streamlining the management and cost of administering England for this new century. This, together with bringing back decision making and law making to this country, with no outside interference would give us a chance in the next twenty years.

Befor you 'nod-off' I shall sign off

Good evening Jake and Rodders

Interesting comments, I agree with Jake that we have a very good standard of living, but the approach to roll on recesssion and property crash i find hard to support.

For the good of all we need a soft landing and or subtle correction whatever it will be, but rodders comments asking for improvements are probably moving towards optimism, which Im all for, but realistically the best we can hope for is holding our own over the coming years and not worstening our status/positioning as a major force in world economics and trade.

Hi Jake

I take it from your comments you have bundles of cash in the bank and no mortgage then.

The Govt have a job to protect the public, i would say they arent doing a very good job at the moment.

I agree that living standards are good, but we do seem to be one of the worst in europe and our kids are at below par regarding health and education i thnk we deserve improvements not a slip backwards -

You take out a mortgage by choice. You know there are risks. You have to take the good times with the bad. The Government is not there to bail people out.

Roll on the house price crash. Roll on recession. It's times like this that make us appreciate the best things in life are free and it's not all about growth, growth, growth.

As for living standards, they are incredibly high already, so if they do fall, that's fine. They are so darn high they could fall a very long way before they REALLY start to affect us. We have good health, education and relatively low crime. We've got everything! You try going to live in Somalia, Iraq, Indonesia. Then you'll be able to complain about living standards.

Stop complaining and remind yourself that in fact you're incredibly lucky!
