Black Friday or Cyber Monday
It seems that shoppers aren’t sure which one to choose.
The US Thanksgiving holiday sales this last weekend should have triggered the biggest ring of cash tills either in the shops or online, providing retailers with the much needed momentum to run up to christmas, but reports in today’s press state that it all appears very, very quiet.
It seems shoppers are watching the pennies very closely in the US and the UK.
One other possible major factor is that consumers may well have had their plastic scaled back. I wrote a blog last month http://www.trumpo.com/blog/business/is-the-uk-dull-of-spenders-or-savers/ stating that the banks are reducing credit card limits, maybe this is starting to feed through to the high street and the economy as a whole, after all if consumers have no credit left, they can’t spend.
Maybe the slowdown has started.
